Lieber Matthias ?,

I viewed your site recently and found it very interesting.  I was
curious as to whether you could assist me with some research since you live
in Germany and speak the language. On the 10th of October 1943 my fathers'
B-17 the "Cash & Carrie" was shot down near Muenster, Germany and crash
landed in a field I am told near Wullen, Germany.  The plane crash landed in
one piece and did not burn.  I have a photo of it taken by the German
military at the time of its' landing. It was in excellent condition. I have
always been curious as to what happened to the plane.  Can you help or
possibly put me in touch with the proper organization. My father was also a
member of the 570th squadron and flew out of Framlingham.  Thankyou in
advance for reading this email and feel free to contact me if you have any
questions.

Hello Matthias Baars,
I am the son-in-law of the pilot William Kotta.  My name is Steve
Humphrey.  My wife, 2 sons and daughter recently read a very interesting
letter from crew member Jim Bowler regarding the finding of their SquareJ
225 and your involvement. We would just like to thank you and Mrs Meile for
your interest and initiation of this matter. Like Jim Bowler says, It's
really is like finding a needle in a haystack. I talked to my father-in-law
tonight and told him we would try to e-mail you. He's been in the hospital
for about a month now suffering from pneumonia and Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
We thought we were going to lose him a few times but, thank the Lord, he
keeps bouncing back. He really did have a fantastic crew with him that stay
in close contact to this day.  We're sending along a recent picture of Bill
and us at a local resturant here in California, near San Francisco.  Again
thanks so much for your participation--
                                                   Sincerely, Family of
Bill Kotta

Eine Mitteilung von Jim Bowler vom 11.Mai 2006

I have some sad news to pass on for your records on our crew. Finding his name on a spare flight suit was your key to identifying our B-17 aircraft and helping you locate our crew. Unfotunately, our crewmate Howward Johnson has died from congestive heart failure and his funeral will be next Tuesday. He lived in Helendale California. There are now 4 crew mwmbers remaining, Bowler, Detwiler, Turner and Gillmore. Charlie Turner lives in a Veterans Home in Maryland. He experienced loss of a leg last year resulting from Diabetes and a poor blood circulation problem.
